Agenda

  • Brian Reyes, County of Marin, will introduce the Marin County’s current thinking on, and the process for developing, an Electrification Plan to address electrifying appliances in existing buildings.
  • Alexi Miller, from the New Buildings Institute in Portland,OR, will focus on the challenges to electrifying existing buildings and how those challenges are being addressed elsewhere. Alexi’s team is finalizing an electrification plan for New York funded by the New York State Energy Research & Development Agency (NYSERDA). He will talk about the policies needed to build customer and contractor readiness so that transitioning existing structures to electrification is easier to achieve.

Speaker: Brian Reyes, Sustainability Planner, County of Marin on the Marin County Community Development Agency’s Sustainability Team. He received his undergraduate degree in Soil and Water Science at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and a Masters degree in Environmental Science and Management at the University of San Francisco.

Brian has over 18 years in the government, private, academic, and non-profit/NGO sectors. He joined the County of Marin staff in May 2021, where he currently implements and coordinates the County’s climate protection, green building, low carbon concrete, efficiency, and energy programs.

Speaker: Alexi Miller is the Acting Director of Building Innovation at the New Building Institute (NBI) and is NBI’s lead engineer. He brings insight and analysis about cutting-edge technologies and strategies to diverse stakeholders as part of a wide-ranging effort to improve the energy performance of the built environment.

Alexi has expertise in a range of topics including zero energy and zero carbon buildings, codes and policy, building controls, deep energy savings retrofits, and emerging technologies. Alexi is a registered Professional Engineer in Mechanical Engineering in Oregon and is a LEED accredited professional.
