Life After the Woodward Fire
Join Lorraine Parsons, Vegetation/Wetland Ecologist, and Miriam Golding, PRNSA Biological Science Technician, to explore how the landscape has changed since the 2020 Woodward Fire. Monitoring revealed rapid vegetation recovery in the first two years, despite drought, with regrowth shaped more by burn severity than habitat type.
Years later, native plant communities continue to mature and fill in. The presenters will share what they’ve learned about fire’s ecological role in coastal habitats, along with efforts to manage invasive plants—including jubata grass, panic veldt grass, and ox-eye daisy—and help native species regenerate.
