Light Pollution—Committee to Consider a ‘Dark Skies’ Policy Position Statement

Nighttime lighting can create damaging pollution from ambient light (glow) and excessive glare. Light pollution has many environmental consequences, including direct impacts on bird migration and human quality of life.

MCL has been studying this issue and has found that there are ways and means to minimize nighttime lighting while maintaining necessary safety.

MCL has developed a draft policy position statement that advocates for “dark skies.” This draft policy statement will be presented for discussion and action at this meeting. Join us to learn more and participate in the discussion.
