SUMMARY:MCL Climate Action Working Group Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Marin Conservation League\nClimate Action Working Group Meeting\nWednesday 10:00 am – 12:00 pm\nZoom Meeting \nRegister: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZwoduysrDMsGt16JMYC3r6_mA1R0EYqLgKn \n  \n  \n  \nPathways to Improved Biomass Utilization in Marin\nA presentation of MCL’s Climate Action Working Group and the Ecologically Sound Practices Partnership \n  \nHow can we responsibly make the best use of all of the vegetation we are removing from our residential and agricultural areas and our parklands\, in part to reduce the risk of wildfire?  Participants in the Marin Biomass Project will share findings and recommendations from their multi-year study. The Project addresses increasing flows of biomass (organic) materials generated by wildfire prevention activities and by landfill diversion efforts in the County. These materials include woody biomass resulting from woodland thinning and landscape trimmings to source-separated and mixed organic streams arising from the collection of metropolitan wood debris\, food scraps\, yard materials\, and agricultural biomass. \nThe Study identifies a system of biomass utilization pathways capable of processing Marin’s expected biomass flows over the next ten years\, which are increasing due to wildfire prevention and landfill diversion programs. It compares the greenhouse gas emissions associated with Marin’s current system and this alternative set of pathways\, and provides a financial viability and public investment analysis for the proposed system. \nThis project has been supported by the Marin Resource Conservation District\, the Governor’s Office of Land Use and Climate Investment (LCI)\, and the Marin Climate Action Network (MarinCAN). The Project has also formed a Marin Biomass Collaborative\, a broad group of stakeholders who have provided feedback on draft chapters of the Study and insights into implementation of Study recommendations. \n \nWe will hear from Chad White who is the Project Manager of the Marin Biomass Study.  Chad is an environmental scientist working on the development of biomass recycling in the Bay Area. He holds a doctorate in energy and resources from UC Berkeley and a degree in chemical engineering from The University of Michigan. He has previously worked as a civil servant\, a program-lead with sustainability management consultancies\, and a university faculty member in environmental studies departments.

SUMMARY:MCL Parks and Open Space Committee Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Marin Conservation League\nParks and Open Space Committee\n3:00 – 5:00 pm\nIn-person/Zoom hybrid\nRegister: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZ0pcOmgrD4vG9XtnkUk-dxDuEZFSvAuGyhD \n  \nAt their November 13\, 2025\, meeting\, MCL’s Parks and Open Space Committee will catch-up with three County Parks Department improvement projects on three Marin shorelines: modernization of a historic boat launch on San Pedro Bay shoreline\, wetland construction to filter polluted water at a popular beach on Tomales Bay\, and (recently completed) a massive traffic reroute and wetland restoration at the Bolinas Wye on Bolinas Lagoon. \n \nBuck’s Landing – Purchased by the County over several recent years\, the historic Buck’s Landing boat launch\, storage\, and repair yard on Gallinas Creek and San Pablo Bay has long been the target of community advocacy to become a public shoreline park. Debris and deteriorating boatworks once stacked along the shoreline have been cleared\, and plans are going forward to rehabilitate the 37-acre site\, along with a new dock\, to provide kayak and paddle board access to the Bay Water Trail.  The project will also preserve wetlands and endangered species habitat\, and provide resilience to sea-level rise. \n \nChicken Ranch Beach\, Inverness:  Best known to families for its protected summer weather and its modest accessible beach on the calm waters of Tomales Bay\, Chicken Ranch Beach is a popular but “well-kept secret” for those wanting a relaxing day in the sun and water. The Beach is also known for an often-polluted ditch/stream that runs through it. Marin County Parks has been working with the Tomales Bay Foundation in the lead to construct a wetland complex that will filter the polluted waters. \nBolinas Wye: One of the County’s most massive projects in years – the reconfiguration of the Bolinas Wye at the north end of Bolinas Lagoon – has been in the works for several decades and is now completedThis wil. After several progress reports over the past few years\, the POS Committee will view past and present photos to see the results of a collaboration of many entities to correct long-standing flooding problems at the north end of Bolinas Lagoon\, restore wetlands\, elminate traffic hazards\, and improve resilience to sea level rise. \nWe welcome Tara McIntire\, Principal Landscape Architect\, and Craig Richardson\, Senior Open Space Planner with Marin County Parks Department will join us to make the presentations. \n  \nAlso on the Agenda: Discussion of Marin Water’s recent workshop meetings as the District moves ahead in the Watershed Recreation Management Plan process that has been underway for about five years.
