Summer volunteer work with SPAWN

Learn about the work SPAWN is doing and help restore and conserve Lagunitas watershed- home of the endangered Coho salmon-with SPAWN's restoration team while enjoying the beautiful outdoors, good company and a great learning experience. Events are arranged to include family friendly activities that everyone can enjoy!

Seed Collection Hikes
July 27, August 17

Seed Collection Hikes are a great way to learn about California native plants and the important role they play in our restoration events. All seed that is collected is then propagated in our native plant nursery by our amazing volunteer team. Once these seeds develop into seedlings and plants we utilize them within the Lagunitas Creek watershed to restore vital habitat. Meeting places vary but the events meet at 10 am and generally run to around 2pm.

Work Parties
July 20, golf course; August 3, golf course; August 8, golf course

Work Parties are a fun way to get involved in the labor needed to restore habitat vital to species like the endangered Coho salmon. These activities are at variable sites within the Lagunitas Creek watershed that can require some small adaptations so we encourage participants interested to RSVP and ask as many questions as you need. Meeting places vary but the events meet at 10 am and generally run to around 2pm.

Volunteer Appreciation Party
June 22

BayWood Artists On the Bay, A Salute to America’s Cup

Public reception October 4, 2013, 6 pm to 8 pm
Exhibit runs through October 26
Bay Model Exhibition Gallery, 2100 Bridgeway, Sausalito, CA.
Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 9 am to 4 pm.

BayWood Artists, a group of distinguished San Francisco Bay Area plein air painters, is dedicated to preserving the environment for future generations to enjoy. They produce an annual exhibition and sale of paintings at the Bay Model to raise both funds and awareness of Bay Area environmental causes. Each year they donate fifty percent of proceeds from painting sales to an organization that protects the land and environment.

This year, they are partnering with the Bay Model to salute and celebrate the America’s Cup. They will produce a major exhibit of paintings that depict the beauty, diversity and charm of the San Francisco Bay Area, with special emphasis on boating and the excitement of the Americas Cup competition. The funds raised from sales at this exhibition will benefit Friends of the Bay Model for the Education Program, which provides comprehensive learning resources for children and adults.

BayWood Artists include: Chris Adessa, Krystal Allen, Christin Coy, Ben Farnham, Jon Francis, Sherrill Miller, Victoria Mimiaga, Zenaida Mott, Lissa Nicolaus and Tom Soltesz. Guest Artist for this show is Robbie Collins.

Marin Audubon Society Volunteer Days

Habitat Restoration Days at Triangle Marsh
First Saturday of each month
10 am – 1 pm

Individuals, families, or groups may contribute to the success of the restoration by:

  • Stopping the spread of invasive plants. These invasives compete with the existing native plants that provide the native wildlife with food and shelter. MAS volunteers help remove the non-native vegetation so the native plants can flourish and benefit the wildlife.
  • Preventing future invasion of non-native plants. Removing the invasive non-native plants provides an area where MAS volunteers can plant more natives in the future. These native plants will be able to start growing free of non-native competitors.

Some native plants are well established, but non-native invasive plant species require regular efforts to restrict and eventually eliminate them from the property.

Location: Paradise Drive across from the main Ring Mountain trailhead

Tools, gloves and snacks will be provided.

Directions:  From the Paradise Drive exit on Highway 101 go 1.5 miles south of The Village Shopping Center on Paradise Drive.  It is between Golden Hind Passage and the Marin Montessori School.

Habitat Restoration Days at Bahia

Some native plants are well established, but non-native invasive plant species require regular efforts to restrict and eventually eliminate them from the property.

Location: Topaz Drive near the clubhouse and Bolero Court
