Will Travis: An integrated regional climate strategy - an impossible dream?

Will Travis recently retired from his post as the executive director of the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission, commonly called BCDC, which is the state agency that regulates development in the Bay and along its shoreline.

He has spent most of his career working for California state coastal management agencies. Will spearheaded the public acquisition of 10,000 acres of privately-owned salt ponds along the northern shoreline of San Francisco Bay so the ponds could be restored to coastal wetlands.

With 240 square miles of low-lying filled land along the Bay shoreline, Will has become a strong advocate for a regional strategy to address climate change and sea level rise in the Bay Area. At this event, he will review efforts by BCDC to build regional awareness of impending sea level rise and the need to develop adaptive strategies to protect vulnerable lowlands around the Bay. He will give special attention to the North Bay and Marin County. There will be an opportunity for the audience to ask questions after the presentation.
