The California Native Plant Society is a non-profit organization of amateurs and professionals united by an interest in the native plants of California. Its principal aims are to preserve the unique native flora of California and to increase the botanical and horticultural knowledge of California native plants. It seeks to accomplish these goals in a number of ways, including, monitoring rare plants; acting to save endangered areas through education, publicity, and on occasion, legal action; setting policies and guidelines on conservation issues; providing expert testimony to government bodies; supporting financially and otherwise the establishment and maintenance of native plant preserves; supporting horticultural use of native plants; and educating the public through monthly programs and walks.
