Marin Emergency Operations Facility

At its October 18 meeting the County Board of Supervisors agreed the County would abandon plans to construct a new Emergency Operations Facility on an 8-acre site on the Marin County Civic Center Campus, near the intersection of North San Pedro Road and Civic Center Drive.  Instead, Marin will purchase an existing office building at 1600 Los Gamos Road - the former home of LucasArts - which will accommodate public safety needs and serve as a vital communications center in the event of a major disaster.

On January 14, 2010, the County held a “Scoping” session for the EIRfor the Civic Center site . The purpose was to give the public an overview of the project and solicit comments on the scope of the EIR for the new construction.  MCL believed that the alternative sites should be revisited in the EIR, and that the EIR should place considerable emphasis on mitigating potential impacts of the massive facility on the neighborhood. MCL is pleased the County listened to concerns and has decided to utilize an existing structure on an already-developed site.
